Current COVID-19 Protocols (subject to change)

-USA residents are NOT required to complete/submit a COVID-19 test prior to arrival at this time

-Every passenger, including minors, must complete a digital form called HEALTH PASS to obtain a QR code to show to airport authorities upon arrival in Costa Rica https://salud.go.cr/. This form will be available 48 hours prior to boarding.

-----Please print a hard copy of your QR approval code(s) to show at the airport.

-It is mandatory that tourists purchase travel insurance that covers their accommodations in case of quarantine and medical expenses due to COVID-19 illness. An explanation of one’s travel insurance coverage, addressing Costa Rica’s requirements, must be uploaded or entered into the HEALTH PASS in order to be reviewed and approved by the Costa Rican authorities. If more information on the international insurance is needed, the Costa Rican authorities will contact the passenger at the email address provided in the HEALTH PASS.

-----In the case of international insurance, the tourist must request from their insurer a certification issued in English or Spanish, noting at least three conditions:

1. Validity of the effective policy during the visit in Costa Rica.

2. Guarantee of coverage for medical expenses in cases of pandemic disease COVID 19 in Costa Rica, for at least US $50,000 (fifty thousand dollars of the United States of America).

3. Minimum coverage of US $2,000 for extended lodging expenses due to pandemic illness or trip interruption/cancellation due to illness, which covers the extra cost of the passenger due to quarantine.

-----If you do not have international insurance, it is possible to opt for travel insurance from Costa Rican companies approved by SUGESE (General Superintendency of Insurance of Costa Rica), which offer their services at Juan Santamaría international airports (city of San José) and Daniel Oduber Quirós (city of Liberia).

• National insurances meet all the requirements to have coverage of medical expenses for illness, including COVID-19, for a minimum amount of $20,000 and coverage for extended lodging expenses or quarantine, due to pandemic illness, for a minimum amount of $2,000.

-You will need to wear a face covering on your flights, in the airports, and in the transportation vehicles to/from the resort.

-Upon arrival in Costa Rica, you may have your temperature checked and airport authorities may ask to review your insurance coverage to ensure it meets the requirements for Costa Rica.

-The resort may do temperature checks upon arrival. Staff are required to wear face coverings at all times, and guests are asked to wear a face covering in designated indoor spaces like: the lobby, retail stores, elevators, and waiting areas of common facilities (e.g. spa, beauty salon, restaurants/bars, etc.). Guests are not required to wear face coverings at the beach, the pool, or in restaurants/bars when actively eating and/or drinking. Some services and amenities at the resort may be modified based on COVID-19 protocols and occupancy levels.

NOTE: I confirmed with the resort that they currently have five restaurants open each night, and the beach is currently open until 10:00 p.m. The swim-up bar is also open for service, but they’re not currently allowing guests to sit at the swim-up bar. They do also have waiters going around the pool taking orders.

-Effective 1/26/21, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that all international air passengers entering the United States (including returning residents) will be required to take a COVID-19 testing within 3 days prior to their flight to the USA.
